How to choose materials for titanium screws?

      How should we choose materials when we customize titanium screws? In fact, titanium alloy is just to meet different industrial demands. Screws are usually used in different service conditions and at different positions on the machine. The machine also has different requirements on screws’ hardness, flexibility, thermal conductivity and wear resistance.

      Therefore, when screws and fasteners are customized for customers, it is usual to ask customers about the end use of screws and the requirements on screws’ properties. If hardness is required, then titanium-cobalt alloy is recommended, which is generally used to make cutting tools.

      When choosing materials, it is necessary to know that screws with high hardness are easy to break. If screws and fasteners with good wear resistance and hardness are customized, then titanium-copper alloy is recommended.

      Copper is one of wear-resistant metals. However, if screws also requires hardness and flexibility besides wear resistance, then titanium has to be added, because titanium has many advantages, such as hardness, anti-oxidation, corrosion resistance and slow thermal conductivity. The cost for titanium is surely not low.

      If slow thermal conductivity, light weight, good flexibility, tensile strength, oxidation resistance and corrosion resistance are required, titanium-gold alloy screws are undoubtedly the first choice. If general screws and fasteners are needed, then it is OK to choose economical copper, iron or steel stainless. If screws are used in special environment, then they have to possess properties of some alloy.
